Sony Announces PS3 to support new 200G Blu-Ray Discs

Posted in Tech by Neil Koster on December 4, 2008

Sony has announced that the Playstation 3 will have a firmware update to allow it to play the new 200 Gigabyte Blu-Ray disc format. Presently Blu-Ray discs hold up to 50 Gb of data so the new format is a fourfold leap.

It just seems that the PS3 is starting to make sense… If you like Blu-Ray for around £300 you can get an amazing media centre with games and Blu-Ray player that is firmware update-able! Unlike a normal Blu-ray player which can, as it seems, go out of date in a heartbeat.

But on the other hand – I think Blu-Ray will only start to take off and then be eclipsed by downloads…..Watch this space !
